question on memorial for Research Lady
by isaacaustin inhi rick and inez.... i was just curious if you guys and the gang ever thought about peacefully and quietly attending the memorial, (with the intent of partaking)...you have a pretty sizeable group.
would the elders ask you all to leave and call the police if you did not leave?
bear in mind there could be visitors so this could be sticky and undesireable to have to call in the police.. thoughts?.

My First Passover
by Tired of the Hypocrisy ini am now a born again christian with a wife who is too sick to be an active jw but who is insisting on going to the memorial.
i know i am not under any obligation to celebrate the passover but i found out a few months ago that i am part jewish.
for some reason my folks never told me about it and i had to hear it from my cousin who told me that besides being part jewish, my maternal great grandfather was also part irish.

Organized or unorganized?
by Wicaugen ina little background.. i've been stumbling with religion over the past year, making a change from agnostic to quasi-christian during the time period, journeying with many jehovah's witnesses, a few baptists, and even two families of evangelicals.. anyway, one of the serious problems i have with the jw's is following the 'governing body'.
you understand, of course.
but i have a more urgent question.

Modern christian religion is much more complex (jws included) than anything that exsisted during the time when the new testement was written. I think you may want to reconsider if it's actually possible to come to a "biblical" answer on the subject at all.

Why did you leave and did you still hold on to some beliefs for a while?
by happpyexjw inwhen you left the wts did you leave over something specific?
did you, or do you, still believe in some of the jw ideas?.
in my own case i left over a family issue i have mentioned elsewhere.

I think the most important thing I gave up after leaving the JWs was the belief that the Bible somehow could "interpret and speak for itself". Once I passed on that principle (which is based on idealism more than reality) I eventually had a real change of mind in regards to how I viewd the Bible and God.
I eventually embrace modern biblical textual criticism, it makes the most sense to me. This isn't to say that I don't see any value in religious belief and tradition (because I do), it's just that my opinions have changed on why I think it's valuable.

Did you get a memorial invite this year?
by drew sagan infor some reason i almost half expected to get one this year (from the elders).
my mother-in-law invited my wife which i assume inlcuded me.
the last memorial i attended was in 2006, seems like so long ago.... so how many here actucally got some "encouragement" this year?

I too find it strange that nobody invited you MissingLink. Me and my wife were missing from meetings about 4 months and an Elder showed up right before the memorial to invite us (just on his own thought to stop by). You would think that somebody would have thought to stop by and and least count some time.

why can't they just forget a meeting now and again?
I suppose it's only ok to miss meetings when the governing body makes a decision. Does that make all those book studies I attended null now that they are no longer required? Better write a letter to Brooklyn...

I know that I missed the memorial at least once, but have no idea what year. I believe I was really sick. I know I also missed a CO visit one year because of a snow storm. That was the only one i remember missing other than one during my honeymoon.
Still trying to remember the year i missed. Was before 2003 but that's all I can remember.
